Why Union: The Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers Union Is YOU. | PFT400-2024

Why Union: The Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers Union Is YOU.

The PFT is an organization designed to represent and exclusively bargain for the diverse interests of over 3100 teachers, paraprofessionals, technical/clerical staff and the PMOIU#2 unit in PPS.

But what it means to you personally is up to you. Maybe the PFT is where you joined a committee that eventually changed PPS school policy. Or the place your children first marched for workers’ rights in our annual Labor Day celebration. Here you might connect to the continuing education you need. Or the place you become a Teacher Leader. Or a Building Representative. Or an Activist.

At The Heart Of It All, The PFT—Our Union—Is People.

We are a diverse, organized and powerful organization staunchly united for the cause of increased resources, expanded opportunities and a world-class public education for our most precious natural resource, our children.

Together we fight for the causes that improve education and protect your rights. Smaller class sizes. Greater teacher supports. Protections in the workplace. Grievance and arbitration defense. And earning a competitive wage with benefits that extend well beyond high-quality affordable healthcare.
