2022 Labor Day Parade, Pre-March Breakfast & Labor Choir
What a difference a couple of years makes …
As you know, the 2021 and 2020 Labor Day parade and PFT picnic celebration were canceled due to COVID safety concerns. And while we’ll be keeping an eye on Covid numbers as September 5th approaches – we are pleased to announce that the Labor Day 2022 March is ON!

Some things have changed (breakfast at the parade instead of a picnic at the PFT – see info below) however the thrust of what we do remains the same: PFT members will show up in large numbers, loud and proud, and use our TEACHER VOICES while marching with the entirety of the city’s organized labor unions through the streets of downtown Pittsburgh.
Because Labor “shows up” when needed, where needed – and this year like no year ever–labor needs to be seen … AND heard!
Here’s What’s Happening, When, Where, and More!
Date: Monday, September 5th, 2022. RSVP Today!
Time: Pre-March Breakfast at the Lot Begins at 8:00 AM
– Breakfast sandwiches, fruit and drinks.
– Labor March (our group) from Uptown begins at 10:30 AM or after
Where: Melody Parking Lot, Uptown (corner of Wylie & Crawford Avenues)
We are in Group 2 of the “White” Division. Look for our School Bus!
Get There: Shuttles are available from the PFT Building to the Melody lot from
8:00 AM – 9:30 AM, or meet us at Melody Lot on your own.
** Shuttles return to the PFT from parade’s end in downtown Pittsburgh across from the Wyndham Grand (formerly the Hilton). Shuttles do not return uptown.
Italian Ice for all shuttle riders upon return to PFT parking lot!

EVENTS:
Labor Day Morning Breakfast: Served from 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the lot prior to the March (don’t forget to RSVP – it’s how we know the right numbers for the caterer!)
Labor Day Raffle: Two Raffle Tickets go to each PFT Member Marcher, good for entries into a prize list that’s expanding daily, including Steelers Tickets, Pittsburgh sports legends autographed paraphernalia, $100 Big Burrito Gift Cards, Admissions to local attractions like Fun For All, Carnegie Science Center, Phipps Conservatory, The Warhol, The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium and more! RSVP now!
Prizes will be available for pickup at PFT HQ after the Parade – or we can deliver to you as necessary. RAFFLE DRAWING AT our Parade Bus 9:45 AM SHARP!
Labor Day Choir: A smaller group of PFT members has been practicing to accompany the march with unifying labor chants and a few classic labor songs – we’ll help you join in if you like! See our Labor Choir information and rehearsal schedule by clicking here! Choir members get extra raffle tickets!
Labor Day T-shirts: LIMITED EDITION WHITE “Super” PFT-shirts will be available for every PFT member who RSVP’s and marches with us on Labor Day – ONE SHIRT per marching PFT member–plus one shirt for each of your PFT family members or special guests joining us for the march! Local/regional AFT members welcome!
(All parties must be present to claim limited edition shirts.)

OUR HISTORY: It is a proud tradition for our union to be one of the most visible and vocal memberships in all of Pittsburgh on Labor Day!
It’s a HUGE deal—one of the best ways for members (veteran members, retirees, and especially new members) to connect with and represent the PFT in the most positive light.
Hundreds of PFT members march with their families in downtown Pittsburgh in the nation’s 2nd largest Labor Day celebration, and a delicious catered picnic (partially stocked with appetizers and desserts from members in pot-luck style) awaits marchers and celebrants alike at the PFT building. (In 2022 we’re holding breakfast at the parade lot rather than a picnic).
Labor Day Honors Solidarity By Bringing Unions Together!
We raffle off great prizes, enjoy live entertainment, and are visited by political luminaries throughout the day. The list changes every year!
